A wildlife photo competition where the best go on show at Kelvingrove museum

The competition will feature three categories and two different age groups.

RSPB Scotland has launched a competition to find stunning photographs of Glasgow’s wildlife and wild places.

The winning photographs will be part of an exhibition at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in May.

The exhibition will celebrate the culmination of the Dear Green Futures programme, which has been running since 2015.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Dear Green Futures was set up to discover people’s perceptions of greenspaces within Glasgow, and look at how these spaces could be better managed for people and wildlife.

RSPB Scotland’s Paul Gunn, said: “Our dedicated young volunteers have achieved a huge amount with Dear Green Futures over the last two years, and I’m really looking forward to seeing it all come together in this final exhibition.

"As part of that, we’re hoping to track down some amazing photographs of Glasgow’s wildlife, to showcase the often unexpected creatures that share our city.

“Plants, animals and insects all take advantage of every opportunity they can, from our rivers, to our parks and gardens, and even city centre streets.

"This creates lots of great opportunities for taking photographs.

“Glasgow’s wildlife is also quite familiar with people, but please remember not to get too close or cause any distress to your subject when trying to get that perfect shot.”

The competition has three categories: People and Wildlife, Wildlife and Architecture, and Wildlife and the Urban Environment.

Entries will be divided into two age categories, 16 and under, and 17 and over.

Photographs need to have been taken within the City of Glasgow, and domesticated plants and animals are excluded.

The photographs will be judged by a panel including photographer David Palmar and CBeebies presenter Rory Crawford.

The closing date for entries is April 21, and full terms and conditions can be found www.rspb.org.uk/thingstodo/glasgow

Winning photos from each of the categories will be displayed at the Dear Green Futures exhibition, which runs at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum from May 19- 31.
