Bard Rabbie would be proud… Hyndland Burns Supper to aid Whiteinch foodbank

Tickets still available for popular community celebration of Scotland's national poet Robert Burns.

He was a poet with a social conscience.

And Rabbie Burns would certainly approve of suppers in his name raising money for good causes.

And it is no different in Hyndland where a long-running Burns celebration returns this year to raise funds for a local foodbank.

Tickets for the supper are still available at £30 per person.

The price includes a three-course haggis dinner, whisky for toasting and Prosecco on arrival.

Diners are invited to bring their own bottle.

A raffle with prizes from local businesses will see proceeds going to Whiteinch Foodbank.

This year's speakers are: Patrick Grady MP (Glasgow North) - Immortal Memory; Professor Joe Farrell (Honorary Professor of Italian of Strathclyde University) - Toast to the Lassies; Reply on behalf of the Lassies, Alison Forsyth; young actor Jamie Adams - Address to the Haggis; journalist and former adviser to Alex Salmond Campbell Gunn is M.C.

Guests will be invited to make contributions - verse, singing - and music is courtesy of Ceilidh music by Chitterybites Ceilidh Band.

Hyndland Burns Supper was first held in 2003, organised by the Lauderdale Park Association as an event to bring the community together.

Since then, a Burns Supper has been held every year, with only a couple of exceptions.

In the last few years, some members of the original LPA committee have reformed and been joined by some other residents in Hyndland to form the Hyndland Burns Supper Committee to ensure that the Burns Suppers continues.

A committee spokeswoman told Glasgow West End Today: "The Hyndland Burns Supper has, we believe, become an important community event over the years.

"We look forward to welcoming well-kent faces who have been attending for many years as well as many new faces.

"We hope this year's supper will live up to the high reputation of past Burns Suppers in Hyndland Community Hall as we celebrate the Bard with excellent speakers, food and dancing."
