Shops offer late hours and early sales amid lockdown fears

Local businesses in Glasgow are offering extended opening hours and winter promotion as they prepare for a feared lockdown.

Shops and businesses are making the most of what could be vital days of trading before lockdown.

Many local outlets are staying open late to maximise the hours they can trade.

The extended hours are to cater for customers wanting greater flexibiity.

With only six weeks before Christmas, every hour could be precious to businesses struggling to make money.

Amanda Mitchell is the owner of Biscuit Clothing on Hyndland Road that opened in July.

She is running an early winter promotion fearing that lockdown is inevitable.

Writing on Instagram, she said: “I’m not calling it a “lockdown sale”, somehow that sounds so negative, but a “Winter Delights Sale” because through all this **** there has to be something to delight over?!!

“As from today (Tuesday) we will be the opening Hyndland shop on extended hours.

“We normally close at 5.30pm but in all this craziness, we will make sure to stay open until the last customer needs us to.

"If you are unable to get to us in Glasgow, don’t worry as there is the website and we promise to get those orders out to you."

Along the road, Lesley and Sarah at home decor boutique Amber & Black have made a similar decision to stay open later.

Preparations

A post reads: “Here at A&B we have decided to open in the evenings this week, from tonight until 8pm.

“It looks like we may be locked down again by the end of this week, so if you wish to do some late night Christmas shopping we will be here for you.”

Mabel Lau at gift boutique Cassiopeia on Hyndland Road said the shop would staying open late until 6.30pm this week.

Finnieston men’s barber Handsome Jack’s said it was making preparations ahead of the much-anticipated lockdown.
