Video: La Belle Laundrette … a West End steamie where the washing is child's play

Two entrepreneurs open unique laundrette service in the West End that will appeal to parents with young children.

They used to be places where you would have to drag the kids.

Now a laundrette has opened in the West End where the chances are you may have trouble getting them out.

La Belle Laundrette is one of the first to open in Scotland with its very own customer lounge and children's play area.

Watch: Isabelle Stephen and Grace Peffers have high hopes for La Belle Laundrette.

So, while you wait for your washing you can relax upstairs with a tea or coffee while the young ones check out the play room next door.

Grace Peffers:

"We offer all laundry facilities with the unique advantage that we have the children's play area.

"We have a customer lounge where we offer free teas, coffees, wifi, television.

"It is a lovely environment for people to come in and sit whilst the washing is being done."

With wifi, TV and magazines, the laundrette is almost home from home and a far cry from the hot and busy steamies of yesteryear.

The laundrette is situated in Belmont Lane, just off Great Western Road, at the back of the Viper nightclub.

Partners: Isabelle Stephen (left) and Grace Peffers.

Isabelle Stephen and Grace Peffers are the two ladies behind the venture.

Isabelle Stephen:

"We want customers and children to come in to the laundrette and relax and enjoy the experience when they are here.

"I do believe it is not a good experience for children in laundrettes these days.

"You need to give them something to keep them occupied, which we have done."

Isabelle, who has been in the laundry business for many years, says customer services is central to what they are bringing to the West End.

She says: "We want to reach out to anybody and everybody. And I want to bring customer satisfaction to everything that we do.

"I've learned in the past about the needs of running a laundrette.

Play: La Belle Laundrette is unusual in having an area for children to enjoy.

"We want customers and children to come in to the laundrette and relax and enjoy the experience when they are here.

"I do believe it is not a good experience for children in laundrettes these days.

"You need to give them something to keep them occupied, which we have done.

"We have created a playroom next to the customer lounge. So that as the children grow up, the laundrette experience as they grow up is an absolutely fabulous one for them."

Refreshments: Customers can enjoy teas and coffees as they wait for their wash.

Grace Peffers was formerly working in the nursing care profession when she decided to branch out into a different sphere of work.

She says: "We offer all laundry facilities with the unique advantage that we have the children's play area.

"We have a customer lounge where we offer free teas, coffees, wifi, television.

"It is a lovely environment for people to come in and sit whilst the washing is being done."
