Buddy bounces back with a jog via Kirklee and the terraces of Great Western Road

Running every day is not as onerous as you would think.

Finding time is always a challenge but so long as there are hours in the day then the exercise can always be squeezed in.

Buddy wouldn’t have it any other way, unless he gets ill.

He recently succumbed to a mystery ailment, which laid him low for a day; he really was quite poorly.

Never a dog to take an illness lightly or quietly, a muzzle, painkiller and sedative were administered and this seemed to do the trick.

His anxiety levels rocket when in the surgery, once damaging an expensive piece of equipment after a grain of sand apparently lanced his paw.

He’s a robust dog with a low pain threshold but his heart murmur doesn’t prevent him from kicking the kitchen door, always eager to get on the move.

The Clyde and Forth walkway is a pleasant natural facility which caters for a variety of distances.

If you’re a marathon addict then a trip to Kilsyth will have you clocking up the miles but today we peel off and follow the River Kelvin, emerging at Kirklee before taking in the terraces along Great Western road.

The architecture is never less than interesting, a particular favourite being the Pentecostal church in Westbourne gardens, but Buddy is more focussed on completing his three miles.

I’ve been keeping a closer eye on his reactions since the mini-illness, and he was relieved to tread the surf on his beloved beaches for a few days, me too admittedly.

Onwards, approaching his twelfth birthday, we’re opting for quality of life over medication.

Choose life, choose running; his tail wags approvingly.
