Amber Restaurant has announced that it will close this week bringing to an end more than 40 years of service on Byres Road.
The Asian restaurant took to social media over the weekend to break the news to its customers.
It is not immediately clear what are the reasons for the decision - but it says the closure is permanent.
It has been no secret that trading has been difficult on Byres Road since the Western Hospital closed its doors last year.
Other traders and businesses have cited high rents and business rates, and other business charges weighing them down.
A posting on Amber Restaurant's Facebook page reads: "Dear Customers - After more than 40 years of serving you, we regret to inform you that the Amber Restaurant is closing permanently.
"We will stop business after the 15th of August.
"We are sorry for any conveniences caused.
"It has been both a pleasure and privilege to be a part of Byres Road for so long.
"A massive thank you to all our staff and customers. Best wishes, The Amber Restaurant."
WONDERFUL
Established in the 1970's, the Amber Restaurant had been at the heart of the West End's eating scene.
Its Facebook write-up says it offered "wonderful Chinese & Peking cuisine in a friendly, warm and ambient atmosphere".
The posting had attracted more than 70 comments from many sad former customers.
One wrote: "First ate in here about 28 years ago. Was always the place to go after a drunken night in Byres Road.
"Lately the Tapas was great. A Byres Road institution sadly lost."
Another said: Aw. "So sad ? Another West End institution goes."
And this person said: "So sad I have been going to the amber for 17 years and food amazing so sorry it's shut xx."
Neighbouring Peckham's has recently been taken over in a bid to revive its fortunes.
The Fig Leaf restaurant closed last year, and the University Cafe warned as recently as March that it may have to close.
