Glasgow to share food and wee blether at One Big Picnic in the city's George Square

Organisers from different community organisations want to bring people together to share food, chat and company.

People from across the city including the West End are being invited to a free event next month.

The idea is to show Glasgow's caring side: showing how people get on regardless of "background, cultural, religious, sexual orientation, social or educational status, homelessness or wealth", according to the organisers' statement.

The One Big Picnic, One Big Community on Sunday September 3 has not been funded through any programme.

It has been organised by a group of local people with support from local community-led projects.

Marina Ahmad is climate challenge & environment officer at the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations (CEMVO) Scotland.

She said: “One Big Picnic at George Square is to show all of us do have the right to good quality food a fair, to an equal and dignified life in and around Glasgow, and within Scotland.”

'DELIGHTED'

Craig Campbell from Humanist Society Scotland said: "We are delighted to be taking part in this event, bringing together many different communities to celebrate everything that makes Glasgow such a unique, diverse and friendly city."

Vicky, from The Little Sourdough Bakery, said: "A rare opportunity to share a meal & a conversation with someone who may give you an insight into another type of life and a different way of being."

Jas Kainth, with SEVA Scotland - a voluntary group drawn from the Scottish Sikh community - said: “Community-led projects from the people of Glasgow from different faith backgrounds uniting together as one to share their food with the public, and the message that the people of Glasgow make Glasgow a great city.”
