A new development trust has been formed by local residents to drive forward an ambitious city cycle project.
Yorkhill Kelvingrove Cycling Village has been three years in the making.
The project will see new cycle lanes and infrastructure installed on streets and public spaces over the next few years.
The idea is to shift the priority in part to people who want to get around on foot or by pedal.
The community-led project has already secured £6.5m funding from the Scottish Government and match-funding from the city council.
So far, much of the work on the ground has been achieved by the area's community council.
Now the Yorkhill and Kelvingrove Development Trust (YKDT) will pick up the work and deliver the project for the community.
'Significant'
YKDT trustee Helen Snoddin has helped announce the new body and invited more people to get involved.
She said:?? “We have only got this far thanks to a collective effort from our neighbours, local businesses and schools, all donating their time, expertise and enthusiasm, culminating in securing significant funds from Sustrans and GCC and now setting up YKDT.
"We will continue to rely on the invaluable support of our community as we move to the next stage, and are always keen to hear from anyone in the neighbourhood who would like to be involved.?? Please don’t be shy.
"We’ve had help from artists, IT experts, graphic designers, air quality analysts, writers, poets, editors, project managers and boots on the ground going door to door and business to business and hanging around at busy junctions counting pedestrians, to name just a few."
Half the cash has come via the active transport organisation Sustrans Scotland and its Places for Everyone programme which is funded by Transport Scotland.
Caitríona Buggle, infrastructure officer for Places for Everyone at Sustrans Scotland, said: ??“It’s exciting to work with GCC and the YKDT on a true community-led project.
"The energy and drive of this community group is inspiring and I look forward to supporting them in their place making journey.”
'Reduced traffic'
The project wants to allow people to move around with ease and transform streets into lively community-centred neighbourhoods that benefit from reduced traffic congestion and air pollution.
The Trust will work with nurseries, schools, Glasgow University and a variety of community organisations to develop "confidence and skills".
Councillor Anna Richardson, city convener for sustainability and carbon reduction, said: ??"It's great to see this exciting community-led project take another important step forward.
"The new trust will be at the heart of delivering the vision of a cleaner and safer environment for their community and we’ll be doing everything we can to support them.”
