HM Coastguard is in the early stages of setting up a new rescue team to cover the River Clyde in Glasgow.
A Facebook page is inviting people interested in being part of the new river team to get in touch.
Rescue operations are currently co-ordinated at a base in Greenock.
The idea is that a new team based upstream in Glasgow would improve response times and help save lives.
The river is seeing increasing levels of use from tourism, homes and businesses in the city centre.
Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team's Facebook is gauging interest for its idea.
It reads: "HM Coastguard are reviewing the possibility of installing a Coastguard Rescue Team into the Yorkhill area of Glasgow.
"This is a very early stage and our first step is to gauge interest and potential availability from volunteers who would reside in the local area within a 10 minute radius of Yorkhill."

Steve Muldoon, senior Coastguard officer, told Glasgow West End Today the service would be enhanced vastly by the additional team.
"We have identified a potential location in the Yorkhill area that fits our operational criteria.
"It is only a 3 to 4 minute emergency response drive to the River Clyde.
"It is also central to the area that the team would cover from approximately King George V docks to the tidal weir at Glasgow Green.
"This is only the early stages of investigations and no firm plans have been made as yet to install a team."
Steve said: "Currently Greenock and Helensburgh Coastguard Teams respond to incidents in Glasgow which obviously has a time delay being some distance away.
"We are looking for people from all walks of life that could potentially bring their own skill set to the role.
"I have Police Officers/ Doctors/ Firefighters/ NHS staff/Maritime workers/ business owners amongst others that can all bring something into the service."
He said no Coastguard rescue teams had been based in Glasgow before.
"This would potentially be a first," he said.
