REVEALED: the first look at Byres Road as it could appear soon after a major facelift

The consultation will run from 23 May until 27 June.

Here are the first images of how one of the Glasgow's most famous streets could soon look.

Finally the design work has been done on the new-look Byres Road - and the proposals are ready.

The next stage is a public consultation that begins next week.

The consultation will run from 23 May until 27 June.

There will be drop-in events from 3 - 7pm on 24 May (Partick Library) and 31 May (Hillhead Library).

There council officers will be on hand to answer any queries about the proposals.

Byres Road will be transformed through a multi-million pound public realm project - funded by the Glasgow City Region City Deal.

The hope is to create a more attractive environment that benefits those who live, work and shop in the area.

The design proposals include widened footways, improved surfaces, reduced street clutter, pavement seating and safe cycle routes.

The design proposals follow a series of very well-attended consultation events, with representation from local residents, businesses and community groups.

Councillor Susan Aitken is leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of the Glasgow City Region City Deal Cabinet.

She said: “Byres Road is a key location and destination for Glaswegians and our visitors, and is an important part of the city’s economy day and night.

'YOUR CHANCE'

"Given its importance, we very much want to hear the thoughts of everyone with an interest in the area and so we would like to see as many people as possible taking part in this consultation.

"This is your chance to help shape how Byres Road will look and work in the future.”

Participation in the consultation is either online or through hard copies at both Hillhead Library and Partick Library, and there will be the opportunity to view the design proposals at both libraries.

To take part in the consultation - or to find out more about the proposals - please visit Glasgow City Council’s consultation hub at: https://www.glasgowconsult.co.uk/KMS/dmart.aspx?strTab=PublicDMartCurrent&NoIP=1

Construction work on the Byres Road project will begin in the autumn of 2019.
