Why you should bag an evening with Trakke

Visit the company's workshop and see how products are made

Glasgow may no longer build ships on the scale it once did, or be a centre of heavy industry, but make no mistake we are still making things.

If fashion is your thing, or you are fascinated by the manufacturing process, an event is taking place next month that will interest you.

Trakke is a Glasgow-based company that crafts high-quality waxed canvas bags and accessories.

The company is opening its doors for a special evening (Sept 12) at its workshop as part of the second Fair Fashion Festival (Aug 31 - Sept 30).

Visitors can see how Trakke and its team of skilled machinists weave sustainability into every step of the production process.

Guests will get an up-close look at how the company transforms raw materials into finished products, all right here in Glasgow.

The Trakke team will guide attendees through their facilities while sharing the company’s journey - from The Barras market to an internationally acclaimed brand.

There will also be a Q&A for guests to ask all of their questions regarding sustainable manufacturing.

We’re excited to welcome people into our workshop during the Fair Fashion Festival to discover how we work, the challenges we’ve faced, and how we try to keep sustainability at the heart of our brand - Alec Farmer

Trakke was founded in 2010 by Alec Farmer, an art student in Glasgow, who was looking for a messenger bag to use when cycling.

Instead of investing what little cash he had, he toured the skips of Glasgow to source materials that he could reuse to make himself sturdy bag.

Passionate about producing long-lasting, sustainable products using environmentally conscious methods and materials, the business grew from small beginnings to having customers across the world.

Commenting on the Fair Fashion Festival, Alec Farmer, Director, Trakke, said:  “At Trakke, we’ve been manufacturing waxed canvas bags right here in Glasgow for over 14 years.

“Sourcing the finest UK materials, we take extra care to make sure that everything we do is as ethical and sustainable as possible - and we build our bags to last a lifetime.

“We’re excited to welcome people into our workshop during the Fair Fashion Festival to discover how we work, the challenges we’ve faced, and how we try to keep sustainability at the heart of our brand.

“We want to share our story - because fast fashion has run rampant for long enough, and it will take a collective effort to turn the tide.”

If you’re interested in sustainability, manufacturing, or just want to see how things are made, this tour is for you. No ticket required - Meet at the Trakke Arch.
