The inspiration behind Glasgow deli institution Giovanna Eusebi receives recognition at Scotland’s Women in Hospitality and Tourism Awards.

West End deli boss Giovanna Eusebi has been honoured with a major industry award.

The inspiration behind Eusebi Deli received recognition at Scotland’s Women in Hospitality and Tourism Awards.

The deli-diner in the West End of Glasgow was named Bar/Café/Restaurant of the Year.

“I’m overwhelmed to win, particularly to be judged by your peers.

"Hospitality is a tough industry for women and this is wonderful.

"This event puts all women in the industry on the map,” said Giovanna.

“There’s a whole team behind me who helped win the award.

"I have a lot to thank the generations of strong women I come from.”

Achievements of women

The awards were made at a glittering ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in Edinburgh.

They celebrate the achievements of women working in the hospitality and tourism industry in Scotland.

They help recognise and increase the number of women working in senior leadership roles across the visitor economy.

Iris Marhencke of Gleneagles Hotel won one of the highest accolades on the night - the Outstanding Achievement award.

Rosie Street of Glasgow Science Centre was given the Rising Star of the Year award and the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland scholarship.

Lynne Kennedy, founding director of Business Women Scotland, said: “The high standard of entries this year has been incredible.

"The judges were overwhelmed by the excellence of the work done by women every day in our tourism industry across Scotland.

“Our aim is to put the spotlight on women who have made an impact in their industry through innovation, best practice and delivering outstanding results.

"We celebrate the entrepreneurial talents of women across Scotland – and help to create more business role models to inspire the next generation of leading women.”

Speakers at this year’s awards included Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne, founder of gluten-free company Genius Foods, and Julie Grieve, founder of digital concierge app Criton, sponsor of the night.
