A 12-year-old Maryhill pupil has pipped 600 other children in a schools Christmas card competition.
Alexander Houston from East Park School took the prize with a jolly polar bear design.
His print has been turned into a Christmas card and is being sent to groups and organisations across North Glasgow.
The competition was organised by local MP Patrick Grady and his card highlights the work of Glasgow Riding for the Disabled Association.
The charity improves the lives of people with disabilities through the provision of horse riding and carriage driving.
Patrick said: “Alexander’s winning design was a real standout entry and perfectly captured the theme of animals at Christmas.
"The judges loved his creative entry which cleverly depicted a jolly winter bear with a cosy festive hat.
'Fantastic'
“All of the design entries were fantastic and a real advert for the artistic talent that we have here in Glasgow North.
“The winning card will be seen by many people and organisations across the constituency and beyond, and highlights the vital work of Glasgow Riding for the Disabled Association in supporting people living with disabilities across the city.
“I’m hugely grateful to all the pupils who took part and for the support they’ve had from their teachers and schools. Thank you also for the very generous sponsorship from businesses in Glasgow North which helped make this competition a success.”
Alexander's winning cared was picked by a panel of local artists who have exhibited their artwork in the Glasgow North constituency office as part of a ‘Local Artist Project’ set up to promote the work of local creative talent.
East Park in Maryhill is a charity which provides a bespoke and child-centered residential and day education service to children and young people with complex additional support needs that cannot be accommodated in a mainstream environment.
The competition attracted support from local businesses operating in Glasgow North, which will support a donation to Glasgow Riding for the Disabled Association.
This year’s competition was sponsored by Boveda Hair & Beauty and Pizza Magic.
Glasgow Riding for the Disabled Association said: “We are delighted to accept this donation and are grateful to the local businesses who helped support the Christmas card competition.
"The money raised will help provide equine therapy for children and adults with disabilities from across the Greater Glasgow area.”
Kieron O’Brien, executive director at East Park said: “We are hugely proud of Alexander for his winning design and all the pupils at East Park who took part in the competition.
"It was a lot of fun for everyone involved and we’re delighted to get recognition for the creative talent that we have here at the school.”
