Nando's to open near Byres Road in early August with posts for 30 restaurant staff

The chain says its arrival in the West End will bring 600 hours of work a week for local staff.

Restaurant chain Nando's is opening just off Byres Road in the first week of August.

And the restaurant has 30 new staff positions it wants to fill before the big day.

Nando's is one of the new tenants in the prestigious Botanic Gardens Garage development on Vinicombe Street.

Car dealership Arnold Clark has spent the last two years transforming its listed former car showroom into a restaurant and leisure space.

Top bar and restaurant names have also been linked with the new venue.

Nando's say its arrival in the West End will bring with it 600 hours of work a week for local staff.

That should be a great opportunity for residents and students looking to boost income.

'Very excited'

General manager Danielle McQueen said: "We are very excited to be bringing our famous PERi-PERi chicken to the West End.

"This is a great opportunity to join our welcoming family and help us build a thriving team from the start.

"There will be lots of development opportunities for those looking to progress in the hospitality industry.

"We believe it's the people that make the chicken, so staff investment is very important to us.

"We are passionate about creating a positive working environment where we appreciate individuality and diversity"

The company says there will be several opportunities for progression to management roles and training roles once the store is up and running.

Nando's has not been universally welcomed.

When its arrival was announced last year, some comments posted on social media said it was not the right type of outlet for the West End.

Many, however, said it would be good for families looking for a fun place for young diners.
