On most days, he can be seen sitting in the subway or at the top of steps leading to the Gartnavel Hospital.

But Hermes - who has not previously been named - has been missing from home (and his workplace) since last Thursday.

A note posted on Twitter reads: "Hermes, AKA the Hyndland Station Cat, hasn't been home since Thursday night (14 December).

"He may still be wearing his collar but had just lost his name tag. He is microchipped.

"He likes to wander into flats around the Novar Drive area of Hyndland.

"Also commonly found near Hyndland Station and in the grounds of Gartnavel Hospital."

Appeal: the post as it appeared earlier Monday on Twitter

The appeal continues: "Please check your tenement close, cupboards, gardens etc. and ask your neighbours in case someone thinks they are helping/feeding a stray cat."

Anyone who sees Hermes or thinks they can help is asked to use the @HyndlandStCat Twitter handle.

Hyndland Station Cat has been on Twitter since July last year - where he has grown a cult following.

To date Hermes has more than 4,800 followers.

He even has his own station badge courtesy of Network Rail.

And fundraisers at the nearby Beatson Cancer Charity have also adopted him.

A 2018 charity calendar with pictures of Hermes has been a big seller.

Meanwhile, Twitter has been awash with speculation about Hermes.

Many followers urge optimism as cats often go missing and disappear for days on end.

Sightings have been reported as far as Partickhill.

The worry is always that cats have come to harm on the roads when they disappear - but here's hoping this cat has many lives to spare!
