Christmas lights switch-on for Byres Road

West End will also host Social Bite's Festival of Kindness

Byres Road’s Christmas tree lights will be switched on on Sunday November 27.

A day of festivities on Vinicombe Street, Ashton and Cresswell Lane is planned before the big event at 5.30pm.

The event kicks off at 11am on Vinicombe Street with a Christmas market with stalls featuring local traders.

On Ashton Lane, there will be a Winter Wonderland with more stalls from local businesses, live music, face painting and festive food and drink.

There will be entertainment from the main stage from midday on Vinicombe Street, with local acts playing including Ben Monteith, Sabrina Mandulu and Robbie Lesuik.

Visit West End will be partnering up with Social Bite again for their Festival of Kindness.

Last year generous Glaswegians donated over 3000 gifts to those in need.

This year visitors can help spread goodwill by donating Christmas gifts to people who are homeless and vulnerable this Christmas time.

Festival of Kindness runs from 25 November until 23 December, and the Glasgow Tree of Kindness on Vinicombe Street is open Monday to Wednesday 12pm to 4pm, Thursday to Sunday 11am to 7pm.

The people of the West End have been extremely generous over the last couple of years and I am sure they will be once again.

John Turner

John Turner, chair of the Byres Road & the Lanes BID, said: “2022 seems to have flown by, and once again I have pleasure in inviting everyone to the annual Christmas event run by and on behalf of the businesses in Byres Road and the Lanes.

“My wife and I have run a stall at the market for several years now, and it is always a wonderful day for all the family.

“We look forward to partnering once again with Social Bite and their Festival of Kindness, who will be accepting donations from the public at the base of their amazing Christmas tree from the 27th November and all through December.

“The people of the West End have been extremely generous over the last couple of years and I am sure they will be once again.”
