A man has appeared in court charged with the rape and murder of Esther Brown.
Jason Graham, 30, is alleged to have attacked Esther, 67, at her home in West Princes Street in the Woodlands area of Glasgow.
Her body was discovered at the property on June 1.
Mr Graham, who made no plea at a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, is also charged separately with robbery.
He was remanded in custody pending further examination by Sheriff Simon Pender.
Esther was an “exceptionally kind and caring” person, according to friends.
She was a founding member of the Woodlands Community Garden, which is close to her flat.
A social media post from the development group that set up the garden paid tribute to Esther.
It read: “We are devastated by the death of our dear friend Esther who has been a key volunteer in our organisation since 2010.
“Esther was a founding member of our community garden and her generous spirit was central to making the community garden a welcoming and inclusive place.
“For many years she also helped to run our community café and served on our board of charity trustees.
“Esther was an exceptionally kind, compassionate and caring individual who dedicated her life to helping others."
The Woodlands Community Development Trust added: “Through her voluntary work she touched the lives and hearts of countless people and we will miss her terribly.

“Although in the immediate aftermath of Esther’s death we have had to cancel some events, we will find a way to bring people back together and help our community heal.

Supt Ross Allan from Police Scotland said: "Esther was a much loved and active member of the community here in the Woodlands area of Glasgow through her charity work and her willingness and commitment towards helping others."
