Green, green grass of Kelvingrove Park... Sir Tom Jones to play West End in August

Legendary singer confirmed as taking part in summer series of concerts in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park

Sir Tom Jones is to play an open-air concert at the Kelvingrove Bandstand and Amphitheatre in August.

He is the latest big name confirmed for the "Summer Nights At The Bandstand" series this summer.

The legendary Welsh singer will perform at the Kelvingrove Bandstand, in the city's west end, on Tuesday 9 August.

Legend: Sir Tom Jones will be performing as part of the "Summer Nights at the Bandstand" series

Other acts confirmed for "Summer Nights At The Bandstand" during August include Van Morrison, Primal Scream, Lloyd Cole, Will Young, Idlewild, The Waterboys and Super Furry Animals.

Mark Mackie, director of Regular Music, said: "The public response to this year's Summer Nights at the Bandstand has been sensational, and now to be able to announce that the legendary Sir Tom Jones is joining the incredible line-up is just mind blowing.

"Sir Tom is one of the greatest stage performers that the world has ever seen and now we have the chance to see him up close in this historic amphitheatre on the banks of the River Kelvin."

The bandstand, built in 1924, was regularly used for concerts and shows until it fell into disrepair in the 1990s.

The 2500 capacity venue eventually re-opened after renovation in 2014 and staged a host of top acts in an intimate and unique setting.

Tickets for the concert will go on sale on Friday at 09:00.
