The Big Sunday: Umbongo Nabarrie and The Stylemilers to rock Kelvingrove Park

A 'big' new set-piece event for the West End Festival is set to draw the crowds this weekend.

The Big Sunday takes place between 1pm and 7pm at Kelvingrove Park on Sunday June 11.

Entry is FREE.

Organisers are promising a big family day out with stalls, food and drink, and music stages

Glasgow Scouts are providing activities and there will be a skateboard competition.

Elsewhere funfair rides and street games are being laid on.

Beat That - one of the longest-running women's samba bands in Scotland - will entertain with their mix of traditional Afro-Brazilian grooves.

Music will also come from The Absurdist Pipe Band, The B Naturals - a traditional barbershop quartet, busking outfit The Stylemilers and Umbongo Nabarrie.

Design students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will provide colourful carnival characters.

A poster for the event reads: "Lots more to be added, so just come along and enjoy a day out for all the family and friends in the west end's biggest park."

A festival spokeswoman said: "West End Festival will be out in full force at The Big Sunday, animating Kelvingrove Park with a range of music, street theatre and providing the carnival atmosphere we have become known for."
