Designer's perfectly hatched plan to keep trading in lockdown

Jessica Taylor opened her independent design shop Hatch in August.

Jessica Taylor will be using social media and online tools to keep her business trading through lockdown.

The small business owner says she will adapt to the shutters going up.

She opened her physical shop Hatch in August just after the first lockdown.

But she had already spent the months before to grow her social media presence and develop brand awareness.

Hatch is a retail platform for a collective of independent designers - Jessica being one.

She left her previous job in graphic communication at IKEA in February to develop Hatch, unaware that a lockdown was on the way.

'Plans to adapt'

The store provides a retail space for curated designer makers as well as a creative workshop space available for hire.

100% of every sale both in store and online, goes directly to each resident designer, commission free.

Jessica said: “With another lockdown on the horizon, I have plans to adapt Hatch and will be hosting online market nights across my social media channels via virtual tours of the shop and offering click and collect.

“I am looking forward to being able to run a shop “normally.

“I am hopeful for the future and would like to thank everyone that has visited the store for maintaining the current safety measures, I look forward to welcoming you again soon.”

  • Hatch can be found at 340 West Princes Street or at hatchglasgow.co.uk. Hatch is also on Instagram.
