It is now in its thirteenth year with event sponsors Glasgow Taxis Ltd supporting the event since 2011.

The competition featured the following sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, cross country, equestrian, football, fencing, golf, hockey, netball, rugby, snowsports, swimming, tennis, trampolining and volleyball.

Points were allocated to the winner of individual sports events in order to decide the victorious university.

Much of the sporting action took place at Scotstoun Sports Campus, Stepps Playing Fields, Garscube Sports Complex and GCU Arc.

Ruari Thomson, Sports President Glasgow University Sports Union, said: “I’m delighted.

"Our teams have been training hard all year, put in a great shift over the course of the competition and it is great to see that being rewarded with bringing home the trophy for a 7th year in a row.

"The event was a massive success and I think a big thanks has to go to Stephen Flynn and the whole team at Glasgow Taxis as it couldn’t have happened without them.

"You have all been a credit to the Sports Union and we shall start working on producing a winning formula for next year.

"Strathclyde Sports Union is continually improving and we can take the positives from today and make sure we are ready for the next Glasgow Taxi’s Cup.”

Stephen Flynn, Vice Chair, Glasgow Taxis Ltd, said: “The Glasgow Taxis Cup is a phenomenal event which brings the city’s universities together and continues to grow in stature.

"Whilst there can only be one winner, what is more important is the sporting spirit on show and the friendships forged along the way.

"We are proud to work closely with Glasgow, Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian Universities and provide a valued service to students and staff alike.”
