More than 700 students will compete in the Glasgow Taxis Cup next month

Scotland’s biggest inter-varsity sports competition is back.

The Glasgow Taxis Cup has more than 700 student athletes from Glasgow Caledonian, Strathclyde, and Glasgow universities competing across 17 sports in 21 events.

And the last full competition winner, Strathclyde University, is eager to defend its title.

The competition - now in its seventeenth year - is back to its original format after a two-year break due to Covid-19.

Event sponsors Glasgow Taxi Ltd has been supporting the occasion since 2011.

Cheerleading

Athletics, basketball, rugby, cross country, fencing, snow sports, swimming all feature - and now with the latest of addition of cheerleading.

The event will take place on Wednesday March 23 at several venues across the city over the day.

The winners of the 16+ sports and the overall winning university will then be announced at Scotstoun Sports Campus from 5.45-7.00pm.

“It’s amazing that even for some third- and fourth-year students this will be their first time competing properly for the Glasgow Taxis Cup.

“We must commend the resilience the students have shown over the last couple of very turbulent years, resilience which will stand them in good stead for the competition ahead.
