The Square Bar & Restaurant: A good shape in Broomhill

Venue is offering 20% off food during May and June

Luke Tracey is proud of the team he has built up at his friendly brasserie bar in Broomhill.

Everyone on the payroll either knows each other or has worked with someone elsewhere over the years. The bonds of friendship are strong and there is a unity of purpose.

The Square Bar & Restaurant celebrates its fifth anniversary this September, and it goes without saying that the last two years or so have been far from plain sailing.

“It’s important to have people you know around you, especially when it's your own business. There's a big element of trust needed and we trust each other.

“One of the team is someone I have worked with for 12 years, and she has worked with someone else who is here.

“So we're all kind of connected somehow, and I have always found that is a good way to keep the place staffed. We all think the same way, we all work the same way.”

Impeccable

For someone who is only 35, Luke has an impeccable CV in hospitality and impressive contacts and connections.

He has managed various high-end four and five hotels and resorts and worked with many of the big Glasgow restaurant names.

The Square Bar & Restaurant celebrates its fifth anniversary this September.

And all that from a lad from Milton via Cumbernauld who didn’t go to university but instead set about learning a trade from a young age.

He credits his parents for instilling in him a fierce work ethic that has driven his career to this point.

Their recent passing made him appreciate that sometimes you have one shot at doing something for yourself in life. And he’s proud of what he and his team have created in Broomhill.

“We have worked hard to create an all-day venue for the West End. We are open for brunch, lunch and dinner, and we are the perfect place to meet friends for coffee and drinks."

He adds: “We offer good quality food and good drinks, at what I think are very reasonable prices for the West End, and I think we do tend to keep ourselves the cheapest in the area.

“We really care, we genuinely want people to be here, and we genuinely want them to have a good time. We don't just see this as a job we have to come to, to pay the bills."

Luke and team at The Square Bar & Restaurant

Luke and his team can’t wait to welcome old friends and new faces to the venue. Make sure to drop by and say hello.
