'For a city that hinges so much on art and culture, Yardworks is an important event'

Yardworks 2020 will see the event stretch beyond the main SWG3 complex for the very first time.

Glasgow's annual international street art festival Yardworks will return for 2020.

Organisers and hosts SWG3 said the two-day event will be held on May 16 and 17.

Last year the festival attracted more than 10,000 visitors.

Andrew 'Mutley' Fleming-Brown is SWG3's founder and director.

He said: “For a city that hinges so much on it's art and culture, Yardworks is an important event for Glasgow and we are really proud to bring it back again for 2020.

"The event is always well attended thanks to the spectacular murals that come to life right before your eyes over the course of the weekend.”

Yardworks 2020 will see the event stretch beyond the main SWG3 complex for the very first time.

The 27 railway arches along the Clydeside Expressway will now feature.

So far, organisers have confirmed more than 100 street artists including established names from Spain, France, Ireland, Bulgaria, Portugal, and Germany.

Together they will transform over 1000 metres of wall space.

This year’s event will feature an outdoor food and drink village and a Montana Paint store.

Also featuring will be a multi-disciplinary arts wall for kids, a skateboarding zone from Clan Skates and a BMX show hosted by The Loading Bay.

For the very first time there will be an additional programme of lectures and talks curated by Festival Founder, Gaz Mac.

Gaz Mac, festival creator, said: “Yardworks has become a major event on the international street art calendar – not just in the UK, but internationally too, and aims to support the growing community of artists bringing colour to our cities throughout Scotland and beyond.”

He said: “Visitors can expect big things from Yardworks 2020, including more artists, bigger murals and additional activities for all the family to enjoy.”

* Entry to the event is £5.00, while children U16 and local residents go free. Join the event on Facebook for all the latest news and updates, or visit: www.swg3.tv
