Former Middlefield school on Partrickhill Road in line for major new homes scheme

The residential school for children with autism is being lied up for a development of apartments with car parking.

A former special needs school in the West End is being eyed up for new homes.

Clarkston-based Westpoint Homes wants to build on the site of Middlefield Residential School in Partickhill Road.

The developer has got the ball rolling giving notice that a planning application is on the way.

A proposal of planning notice has just been lodged with Glasgow City Council.

The notice gives little detail of what is proposed at this stage.

It simply states: "Demolition of existing buildings and erection of residential flats with associated car parking, landscaping, access and other ancillary works."

However, Westpoint invited local residents to learn about the proposals at an event back in March, according to its website.

It hosted a public exhibition at Cottiers Theatre on "emerging proposals for the development of the former Middlefield School".

Middlefield school was built in 1970 as a centre for the deaf.

In later years, it was used by children with autism but closed to pupils three years ago.

A council report last year said £5 million would be needed to bring the building up to scratch.

Westpoint Homes began developing a small number of "bespoke, highly specified, luxury homes in Glasgow’s most prestigious suburbs", according to its website.

It adds: "The company has since grown to become one of Scotland’s leading home builders.

"We are extremely proud of the developments we have completed over the years.

"The location and scope of each development has varied dramatically but our attention to detail and commitment to superior build quality remains a constant."
