'Re:Dress': Woodside Halls to host fashion show for up-cycled clothes and garments

Looking fashionable doesn’t need to cost the earth, say event organisers.

A fashion show with a difference will take to the catwalk later this month.

Re:Dress will feature up-cycled clothing created by local environmental projects and designers in Glasgow.

The event takes place at Woodside Halls in Glenfarg Street on Saturday February 29.

Designs will share a common theme of transforming old clothes into something completely new threw up cycling.

The event has been organised by Cook Grow Sew: Branching Out, based at the West of Scotland Regional Equality Council (WSREC) in Napierhall Street.

Linsay Taylor is the project co-ordinator. She said “We only have one planet and it is our duty to protect this planet; our home.

'Fun and beautiful'

"But who says we can’t have fun while doing the hard graft.

"That’s why Cook Grow Sew: Branching Out hold fun annual events like the upcycling fashion show.

"Highlighting that climate action can be fun and beautiful.”

The average person doesn’t use up to two thirds of what’s in their wardrobe.

According to one estimate, £140 million worth of clothes go to landfill every year.

The event at Woodside Halls hopes to inspire the community to reuse their textile waste and in doing so reduce household carbon footprints.

Organisers say being stylish and fashionable shouldn’t cost the earth especially when the world is facing a climate emergency.

Cook Grow Sew: Branching Out is funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund to enable communities to reduce their carbon emissions.

It runs workshops on reducing both food and household waste, eco-driving sessions, supporting community food growing and providing tailored energy advice.

The project supports individuals from Minority Ethnic backgrounds across Glasgow, Renfrewshire and North Lanark shire.
